Provide Useful Content

Unlike merchants, who need to provide solutions, as an affiliate, you need to provide information.

That means content and, usually, lots of it.

Your information will still be aimed at providing solutions, but in a different way. See my preselling page. And if you don’t like to write, or don’t know much about the niche you want to target, there are ways around that. But, regardless, without content, you don’t have a valuable website or ezine and without either of those, it will be extremely difficult to make any real money in affiliate marketing.

Your prospects are usually online to find information first and products only second, and if you are the one who can provide the information they want, then you are in a wonderful position to then recommend products. You become a trusted guide and if things go well, they begin to follow you down the path to purchasing products that provide the specific solution they are looking for.

If you happen to have a ton of knowledge about your niche, then great! You are already equipped to simply write about what you know. If this does not describe you, don’t despair, you just need to take a different approach. First, you will need to do research to find out what information is wanted by your niche and why. You can do this by searching other websites, “lurking” in forums, joining discussion groups or reading magazines targeting your prospects.

Once you have this information, you can either try writing yourself or you can locate content in other ways. This can include hiring a ghostwriter (try Elance), using public domain content, resell right products, other people’s articles or any other legal way to get the information for your prospects.

Then, make the content available to your prospects through a website, blog or email newsletter and start becoming that trusted guide. Lead them to the solutions and they will lead you to huge paychecks.
